Florida State football fans are currently on the couch this offseason, after the football finished with a 5-7 record. As a result, the Seminole faithful get the opportunity to watch their favorite former players in the NFL's Week 16 action.
One name that fans are always discussing is former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, who won a Heisman Trophy and national championship with the university in 2013.
To be honest, I am surprised that Winston has lasted in the league for eleven years. However, that is the type of competitor that the Alabama native is. After an up-and-down five-year campaign in Tampa Bay, he has only played in double-digit games in a season once with the Browns in 2024.
His post-playing career looks to be in the booth, since he has shown a great sense of personality to others. However, before he hangs up his jersey and cleats, I would imagine that Winston wants one last time to shine.
There are several quarterback-needy teams throughout the league. He is currently with the New York Giants, where he has played in three games and completed 37 of his 66 passes for 567 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions this season (according to ESPN Stats and Information).
Leave it up to the Giants' organization to sign Jameis Winston in free agency to then sign Russell Wilson in free agency, and lastly acquire Ole Miss's Jaxson Dart in the NFL Draft. That is something that only the Giants would do.
The franchise has a 2-12 record on the year and will be taking on the Minnesota Vikings today at 1PM EST on FOX. The season is over for the Giants, as they are only seeing how their first round pick will pan out. Quarterback Jameis Winston will likely be sitting exclusively on the bench.
While Winston isn't the spring chicken that he used to be, I expect him to make one final push at being a starter in the league before retiring. The hope is that he is a bridge-gap starter for a season so that a team could groom a young signal-caller in 2026, then Winston can ride off in the sunshine.
