Running Game
Mike Norvell wanted to and needed to run the ball to have a successful offense and Gus Malzhan is no different.
FSU has run the ball well under Mike Norvell up until last season, where they only averaged 2.85 yards per carry.
That number was 4.54 in 2023 and 5.47 in 2022. Jordan Travis and his mobility helped open up FSU's running game in those early years, but DJ Uiagalelei offered nothing in that regard once he hurt his knee.
Opposing defenses didn't have to respect that aspect and knew they didn't have to worry about the passing attack. Gus Malzhan is going to run the ball, and everyone knows it, but it's hard to stop.
He consistently has top-10 rushing attacks, and he'll have Thomas Castellanos in a role similar to young Jordan Travis with his running ability to keep defenses honest.
It would help if they could stretch the field and hit a vertical pass from time to time, and we could see some jet sweep action or reverses from Malzhan's bag of tricks.
