FSU FOOTBALL FALL CAMP
Florida State football has started its fall camp and is preparing for its season-opening matchup versus the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, August 30th. The Seminoles begin their first fall scrimmage Tuesday night under the lights of Doak Campbell Stadium.
The fan base has heard all about the 2-10 season last year, and wants to put that disappointment to bed. The Seminoles have added several pieces via the recruiting ranks and transfer portal, but some individuals forget about the players who contributed in 2024.
BIG ENERGY GUY
Some players often get dismissed from last season's squad, but a player that fans need to monitor is redshirt sophomore defensive back Edwin Joseph. He brought the energy from the jump last year, where he told players before practice that if they didn't want to be here, then go home.
It was the brutal truth that needed to be said for a team that showed at times that it gave up last season. The former Chaminade-Madonna Prep standout recorded 13 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, and one blocked kick in 2024, but he would like to have a bigger role this season.
Joseph set the tone early in the season opener versus Georgia Tech, where he delivered a bone-crushing hit on special teams. His effort and dedication to getting better allowed him to gain more of a role on the team.
HOW DOES HE FIT IN THE ROOM?
With that said, the Seminoles added defensive coordinator Tony White to the staff, where he runs a multiple 3-3-5 defensive scheme. I envision that Joseph will be more of a safety role this year after having a stint of being a nickel cornerback last season.
Coach White's defense relies on more safety coverage, where we could see a combination of Earl Little Jr., Shyheim Brown, KJ Kirkland, Ashlynd Barker, Conrad Hussey, and Edwin Joseph. The secondary is loaded with talent, but I feel like Edwin Joseph could stand out in the position room.
