FSU softball (10-3) got embarrassed on its home field on Friday night against Alabama. The game was tick-for-tat through the first three innings, but it was the way Alabama exploded in the fourth inning with multiple home runs, and the FSU offense barely sniffed anything at the plate that made it look uncompetitive for the rest of the game.

FSU never looked like they had a shot after Alabama scored its first run, and truthfully, one run is all Alabama would have needed on Friday night. We wrote that the game made it look like nothing had changed when FSU faces a power pitcher, and FSU won’t win anything if these types of performances continue against teams with great arms.

The good news is, it’s still early in the season, and FSU has several freshmen who’ll continue to gain valuable experience and hopefully make adjustments as the season progresses. FSU also needs its upperclassmen to deliver the goods. In a rarity, Isa Torres struck out twice on Friday night, and only struck out FIVE times all last season.

FSU will face Dartmouth again before getting a chance to avenge the embarrassing loss against Alabama later Saturday afternoon. How this FSU team responds on Saturday will tell us a lot about this young team. If they don’t avenge the loss, it’s not the end of the world, but they must find answers on offense. The weak contact and strikeouts without drawing a single walk made Alabama’s freshman look unhittable. Lonni Alameda’s program usually responds well to adversity, and we’ll get to see if this young team has any dawg in them on Saturday afternoon.
