It's a busy time for FSU spring sports, with baseball finishing its regular season and softball already in regional postseason play.
FSU baseball had a chance to close out its regular season by making a statement against another top-five team at home. However, North Carolina came to Tallahassee and won the first two games relatively easily to clinch the series. North Carolina won the first game 8-3 and the second 11-1 in seven-inning run-rule fashion. They will have the chance to avoid the sweep on Saturday afternoon.
FSU saw its chance to win the ACC regular season title go up in smoke, and there's a good chance the top-eight seed they were in a great place to receive won't be there unless they win Saturday and make a deep run in the ACC Tournament.
The book is out on FSU's starting pitching staff. Good teams make them work and throw lots of pitches, while taking advantage of the walks and hit by pitches. The bullpen has been a concern all year, and the FSU offense has been non-existent with poor quality at-bats against the Tarheels. They have a lot of work to do if they want to make it back to the College World Series and have a legitimate shot to finally win that elusive National Title.
FSU softball cruised in its first game in the Tallahassee Regional against Robert Morris. The Noles won 10-1 in a five-inning run-rule and will take on the No. 3 seed South Florida Bulls on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. I wrote about all of the potential opponents in the regional here.
FSU golf won the regional they hosted easily and moved on to the NCAA Championships. They were the only school to win the men's and women's regionals.
FSU is in a tie for 16th place after day one in the NCAA Championships. Mirabel Ting, the No. 1 ranked college golfer, is tied for 10th place in the individual standings.
