FSU softball improved its record to (12-4) with another five-inning run-rule win over an inferior opponent. The Noles easily dispatched Elon 9-1 on Sunday. FSU pitchers dominated Elon, only allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out seven.
FSU batters had 11 hits, one strikeout, and three walks. Ashtyn Danley went 3-3 with a double, triple, and two RBI.

That’s the thing with FSU softball early this season. They have beat up on teams with less talent, but aside from a win over No. 7 UCLA, FSU has looked like the inferior team when facing other ranked teams.
They have been outscored 25-5 in losses against Texas Tech, Tennessee, and Alabama (2x). FSU is relying on several freshmen to play significant roles, and those freshmen have played well except when facing the top teams. I’m not ready to throw the towel in yet, because there’s a lot of softball left to play and these ladies will gain a ton of experience over the next couple of months.
FSU offense needs to figure something out when they face power pitchers
They’ll face some ranked teams in the ACC, but probably won’t face anything like what they faced against Texas Tech, Tennessee, or Alabama. The pitching has some growing to do as well, but they have given FSU a chance in most games. However, the offense offering nearly nothing in all of those games makes the margin for error nearly zero for a relatively young pitching staff.
I still have faith in the girls in the circle, but a major question remains for the offense when they face top pitching again.
