No. 5 FSU softball (6-0) easily moved past the winless Liberty Flames (0-6) with an 8-0 run-rule win on Tuesday night in front of the home crowd. It was the last game before they increase the ante over the next few games when they play in the Clearwater Invitational.

FSU pounds out 11 hits, five by freshmen, led by Marin Heller’s three hits and two RBI. Haley Griggs has two RBI, and Makenna Sturgis drove in a run.

Jazzy Francik went four innings, finishing with two walks, one strikeout, and allowing two hits. She wasn’t her usual self with the walks. However, freshmen Marlee Gaskell and Bella Dimitrijevic continue to look impressive and gain experience early this season.

FSU has been solid in the first six games. The pitching has done great, defensively, they have been really good, and offensively, they have been good. However, they’ve left too many runners on base and have failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position too much for my liking.

FSU softball will learn a lot about itself over the next few days when they face three teams ranked inside the top 10

Those are the things they can’t afford when facing Texas Tech and other top teams in the Clearwater Invitational.

The Red Raiders are who the Noles will face on Thursday at 1 p.m. It’s the team that knocked the Noles out of the postseason a year ago in Super Regionals, and FSU will likely see NiJaree Canady again at some point. It’ll be a great early test for the Noles, as she’s arguably the best pitcher in college softball. The game will air on ESPN2.
