Florida State (9-2) softball got back to its winning ways on Tuesday night, with an 8-0 five-inning run-rule win over Louisiana. It was a game everyone expected FSU to win. They won ugly, but sometimes that’s the name of the game.

They didn’t hit the ball exceptionally well, using several Louisiana walks and errors in the field to score most of their runs. They wasted a prime opportunity in the first inning to put runs across when Isa Torres led off with a double.

Freshman Bella Dimitrijevic got the start in the circle and continues to gain valuable experience. She went 3.2 innings, allowing a few hits, but didn’t allow any runs. Louisiana batters were trying to ambush the first-pitch fastball, and had some success. It’s a learning experience for the freshmen who’ll need to start mixing in her change-up early in counts to keep batters off balance. She has used her change-up effectively so far, but throwing it early in counts will make her even more effective.

The next few games should be good for these young FSU players to continue gaining valuable experience

FSU freshmen batters seemed to be impatient on the night, often hitting balls off the end of the bat or getting jammed. It’ll come with experience, but they must learn to punish pitchers in hitter counts.

However, it was good on FSU batters to work the count and draw several walks and capitalized in those situations. Ashtyn Danley hit a couple of balls really hard. Isa Torres is Isa Torres. It was good to see FSU close out the game in the fifth when they had the opportunity.

They’ll play in the Dugout Classic, starting on Friday, hosting Darthmouth, No. 9 Alabama, and and Elon.
