Starting tight end Randy Pittman Jr. has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. The junior from Panama City joined FSU in the offseason and was one of the Seminoles' most important players on offense.
Pittman followed offensive coordinator Gus Malzah from UCF, and he was immediately used as a weapon in the pass game and in goal-line situations as a wildcat quarterback. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound athlete had 23 catches for 208 yards and seven rushes for 37 yards with five total touchdowns.

Although he's built more like an H-back than a natural tight end, Pittman was one of the best portal pickups for FSU last year. He is a legitimate three-down player that provided blocking in the run game and versatility in Gus Malzahn's scheme. Pittman's pro prospects might be a little overstated given his size, but as a college football player, he is a valuable player and should have a robust market with interest from top programs.
My thoughts: Pittman's presence will be missed
With the status of Duce Robinson up in the air until he makes an announcement, Pittman's return would have assured the next quarterback of at least one veteran presence in the huddle. The understanding is that Pittman might be searching for a team that he feels is more prepared to make a run at the playoffs in 2026.
The silver lining here is that FSU does have some young options at tight end. There was a lot of excitement and buzz about freshman Chase Loftin before he missed more of the season with an injury and if Landon Thomas decides to stay, it would be in FSU's best interest to make him a bigger piece of the offense.
FSU also recruited four-star prospect Xavier Tiller and could move defensive end Amaree back to offense. So, there are some promising young options and 2026 is a good time to see what they've got at the position.
Pittman's announcement comes on the heels of the Seminoles likely losing starting cornerback Ja'Bril Rawls, starting linebacker Omar Graham Jr., and starting safety Edwin Joseph. The other starting safety, Earl Little Jr., is expected to announce his intentions to enter the 2026 NFL Draft.
