Let's be honest with ourselves, Florida State football is not in a good spot, as the Seminoles have a combined 7-17 record in the past two seasons. The fan base is starting to get exhausted with head football coach Mike Norvell at the helm.
This isn't myself advocating for Coach Norvell to be relieved of his duties at Florida State because I want to see everyone in the Garnet and Gold succeed at a high level. I realize that there are individuals around the country that don't see the vision of what Norvell brings to the table, and it is understandable since the Seminoles have a combined 7-17 record over the past two seasons.
Tuesday has been a day filled with Florida State players entering the transfer portal, such as running back Kam Davis, defensive end Jaden Jones, linebacker Omar Graham Jr., and cornerback Ja'Bril Rawls.
The biggest surprises were Graham Jr. and Rawls. This is coming from a defensive unit that struggled to end the season against the arch-rival Florida Gators, who allowed running back Jadan Baugh have 266 rushing yards (according to ESPN Stats and Information).
This isn't a situation where it could be that players aren't believing in defensive coordinator Tony White because this was his first season leading the Seminoles' defense. However, Norvell will be entering his seventh year in Tallahassee, and I wonder if the buy-in is there at Florida State.
The plan seems clear: If Florida State isn't successful in 2026, then Mike Norvell is likely gone. I don't believe that the administration, boosters, and fan base can endure any more hardships.
The transfers from Tuesday don't indicate that Norvell will be relieved of his duties, but if the 2026 season start on a rough stretch, then the administration could have a short leash for pulling the plug. Overall, I would not advocate on giving up on Mike Norvell, but Florida State has to win, and they have to win now.
