FSU baseball improved its record to (19-4, 5-1 ACC) with a 15-5 run-rule win in seven innings in its rubber match against NC State.

The Noles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but it was a moment in the second inning that was the catalyst for the offensive onslaught.

Myles Bailey had already hit multiple home runs in the series, and NC State was afraid to pitch to him. They intentionally walked him and pitched around him several times, but an NC State pitcher hit Bailey with a fastball up and in on a 3-0 count that rubbed FSU the wrong way. It may not have been deliberate, but the pitcher missed his location by about three feet if that wasn’t the case.

FSU went on to score five runs in that frame to make it 7-0. They scored one in the bottom of the third, three in the fifth, and four in the bottom of the sixth to make it 15 runs.

Kelvyn Paulino Jr. had a monster day, including hitting his first collegiate home run. He had two hits and four RBI. Nathan Cmeyla continues to be productive, going three for five with three RBI. John Stuetzer broke out of a mini-slump, going three for four with three RBI. Cal Fisher redeemed himself, going two for three.

The FSU offense had 14 hits, 10 walks, and only four strikeouts. Bryson Moore was solid through five innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Overall Thoughts On The Series

The starting pitching was not as dominant as last week, but good enough. The offense carried the day in the last two games, overcoming four errors on Saturday before the defense fielded with a clean sheet on Sunday.

It was a great response after losing the series opener on Friday night. The Noles have a big game against the rival Florida Gators on Tuesday, as they look to avenge a previous loss.
