Clemson Defense Isn't What It Used To Be

The days of Clemson’s defense holding teams to an average of 13-15 points per game are over. The Tigers allow 24 ppg this year, which is the most allowed over the past decade.

FSU hired veteran defensive coordinator Tom Allen in the offseason, and the thought was the Tigers would have a stout defense in 2025. That hasn’t been the case, but some of that could be due to their offensive struggles, much like FSU in 2024.

If we throw out the Boston College and North Carolina games(because those teams have dreadful offenses), Clemson has allowed 34, 35, and 46 points over the past three games against teams with an offensive pulse.

FSU will have the best offense (No. 19) the Tigers have faced, according to FEI advanced metrics. Georgia Tech ranks No. 26 and scored 24 points, SMU ranks No. 48 and scored 35, and Duke ranks No. 30 and scored 46.

If FSU can stay ahead of the chains, they'll likely find success, and Clemson could be susceptible to some trick plays.

It’s like the defense has gotten worse as the season progressed. It would be great if that trend continued on Saturday night.
