FSU football: Will offense score a touchdown against stingy Notre Dame defense?
By Kelvin Hunt
Will the FSU offense score a touchdown against Notre Dame? That's where we are in the worst season of modern FSU football history. It's ridiculous that this is a legitimate question for FSU football.
However, FSU hasn't scored more than 21 points ALL season, and hasn't scored more than 14 offensive points since their first game, and Notre Dame will be the best defense they've faced all year.
According to FEI advanced metrics, Notre Dame's defense is ranked No. 4, and it allows only 12.1 ppg. FSU's offense averages only 14.4 ppg, and it's lower than that if you take out the first game.
Oddsmakers at DraftKings have FSU scoring 7.5 points at -110. If FSU only scores ONE touchdown, you'd lose that bet. How crazy is it that that's a real bet on FSU football?
Ryan Fitzgerald could make three 50+ yard field goals, and you'd win that bet if that's the case. Talk about a career turnaround from two years ago, and that's the type of turnaround FSU will need in 2025.
FSU didn't score a touchdown until midway through the third quarter against a bad North Carolina defense last week. North Carolina had seven sacks and 10 tackles for a loss.
FSU hasn't been able to run the ball all year, and Notre Dame only allows 3.57 yards per rush. The Fighting Irish are stingy against the pass, only allowing six touchdown passes with 10 interceptions. Notre Dame will be looking to make a statement over a team with a big name since they've played a soft schedule for the most part. I could see them playing hard for all four quarters, especially if they have a shutout going late in the game. It'll be interesting to see if FSU can manage to score or not.
