FSU football: What's cost to fire multiple coaches if Mike Norvell makes changes?
By Kelvin Hunt
What Else?
If FSU fired those five guys, it would likely cost several million dollars just based on the length of their remaining contracts and their salaries. That's why I don't think it's realistic for Mike Norvell to fire nearly everyone and start over. If money was no object, I'd likely fire Thomsen and give Odell Haggins the option to retire or something since he's been at FSU for so long. He's still a great coach and developer of talent, but FSU must get better players at the defensive tackle position and Coach Haggins hasn't exactly lit it up on the recruiting trail over the past decade. FSU must get younger as a staff.
Not only does FSU have to worry about paying the buyouts for these coaches, but they would also have to pay new coaches, especially if they want top-notch coaches.
FSU is still trying to get out of the ACC, having to pay those lawyers and build the football-only facility.
That means FSU must be strategic with how they move if they choose to fire multiple coaches. However, Mike Norvell has no choice but to make significant changes to the staff after this season if he wants to have any chance to avoid getting fired in the near future.
