FSU football: Top Four MAJOR traits new offensive coordinator must have
By Kelvin Hunt
Adaptability
Mike Norvell prefers an offense that establishes the run to set up the pass, and that's likely the same philosophy the new offensive coordinator will have.
Opposing teams will look to take that away, so having a guy capable of adapting to how the defense tries to take things away will be key.
FSU ranked No. 62 in offensive drives that yielded zero or fewer yards in 2023. That was way down from the No. 11 ranking they had in 2022. That ranking in 2024 was No. 128.
See the downward trend? The crazy part is the 2023 team had much more talent at its skill positions, but the offensive line wasn't as good, and we saw what happened in 2024.
I've said it in many pieces lately, but addressing the offensive line is the most important thing that must happen in the off-season.
If teams are defending in a two-high shell, can the offense execute down the field without explosive plays? Can the offense attack underneath or in the flats?
The 2022 offense was the best version since Mike Norvell arrived at FSU. They could attack defenses in every aspect. It was a top-10 offense, and FSU needs to get back to that.
