Explosive Plays
The FSU offense had nowhere to go but up from last year regarding explosive plays. Gus Malzahn usually has explosive offenses because it’s a vital part of his success. FSU only averaged 4.42 yards per play in 2024. That number is 8.29 through two games in 2025.
That number won’t remain that high as FSU will face some opponents with good defenses. However, UCF averaged 6.17. 7.07, and 6.5 yards per play over the last three seasons under Malzahn’s watch.
If you remember, Malzahn and Norvell had one of the top offenses nationally when they worked together previously at Tulsa.
The play of Thomas Castellanos and the offensive line through two games portends great things when it comes to explosives, as long as they can remain healthy. However, I will acknowledge that Brock Glenn and Kevin Sperry had several explosive plays on Saturday, although it was against inferior competition.
FSU has talent at its skill positions; it’s a matter of getting the ball to them and letting them go to work.
