Thomas Castellanos' Deep Passing Accuracy
Nearly every FSU pundit loved to point out time and time again how inaccurate Thomas Castellanos was in the vertical passing game. However, he’s done nothing but hit players in stride 40-50 yards through the air multiple times in all three games. He is averaging 15 yards per pass and completing 74 percent of his passes.
IF Castellanos hits players with deep passes in games, it drastically changes what opposing defenses can do. His ability to show improved accuracy through three games should force teams to defend differently, which should open up the passing game.
If defenses have to be cautious because of the vertical pass, AND they know Castellanos can use his legs to do damage? It basically becomes pick your poison. If they play not to get beat deep, the running game and all of the underneath concepts open up.
If they run man-to-man, he can do damage with his legs because the defenders will have their backs to him. It all comes down to how well FSU can execute. If they do that, they’ll be a handful to stop, and probably the only thing that will stop them will be themselves when that happens.
