Pass Rush
This aspect of the defense will determine how successful FSU can be against top competition. We already know Tony White's defenses are good against the run. However, it’s the pass rush that must continue to improve and make an impact.
FSU has six sacks and five QB hurries through two games. They should have at least nine sacks because they’ve missed some easy opportunities to cash in when they were in position. Kent State is a run-first team, but they have allowed nine sacks through three games.
This is a game where it would be good to see more guys win their battles to pressure the QB instead of depending on coverage sacks.
James Williams is someone to pay close attention to. He is among the team leaders in QB pressures, but doesn’t have much to show for it, sacks-wise.
The Miami game is one where getting pressure on their quarterback will be paramount. They have a good offensive line and like to get the ball out of the QB’s hands quickly. Pay attention to the FSU pass rush in this one.
