FSU football should have followed Notre Dame's blueprint for bowl game participation

This should have been a prime example.

Florida State football did not have success during the 2025 season, where they finished with a 5-7 record and ended on a loss to arch-rival Florida.

This is not ideal for a fan base that wants to complete for conference and national championships. The Seminole faithful doesn't have trust in what head football coach Mike Norvell after his sixth season of his tenure.

The hope was instilled after the 2022 and 2023 seasons, where they went 10-3 and 13-1 respectively. Some blame the downfall of Florida State football from the trying to prove the doubters wrong with the College Football Playoff selection committee snubbing them.

However, I would like to highlight the 2023 Orange Bowl matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs, where they were embarrassed by a score of 63-3. The Seminoles had several opt-outs in the game because they viewed the game "meaningless".

Florida State was 13-0 and won their conference heading into Selection Sunday. However, the committee thought it was a better choice to select a 12-1 Alabama squad that lost to Texas at home by multiple possessions. However, close losses apparently doesn't matter in the SEC because "it just means more".

Nonetheless, a significant moment was captured on Sunday, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish elected to opt out of their bowl game against BYU due to the fact that they were snubbed.

This is good on the Fighting Irish for standing up for what's right. Notre Dame had road losses to Miami and Texas A&M. Obviously, they shouldn't be ranked ahead of the Hurricanes. However, since they were in the top ten right before conference championships, they should have stayed in the playoff.

Hopefully, Florida State stands their ground in the future.
