Florida State football made a huge decision on Saturday morning, as they are expected to hire John Garrett as the new General Manager for the program, according to a report from On3's Warchant.
This was a familiar face for the Seminoles, as he was previously on staff from 2022-2023, when Florida State had a combined 23 wins. Garrett's shining moment came when he was the General Manager of Player Personnel at Duke in 2024 when the blockbuster move to acquire superstar quarterback Darian Mensah from Tulane in the transfer portal.
There were fans out there that wondered how invested the Seminoles were after they decided to keep head football coach Mike Norvell with the program after having a combined 7-17 record over the past two seasons.
The transfer portal begins on January 2nd, so it is go-time for Florida State to get the pieces that they need. They also have to retain pieces on its roster after many have left. Florida State has to find sustainable success that it has been missing.
Florida State is also expected to add Taylor Edwards as its executive director of player acquisitions, sources tell @On3sports.

Florida State made another headlining move on Saturday, as On3's Pete Nakos reported that the Seminoles are expected to add Taylor Edwards to be its executive director of player acquisitions.
Edwards has worked with the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes and South Carolina Gamecocks. This has to be a huge priority for the program, as they want to attract high-quality talent to Tallahassee. Florida State has the capability to make noise in the national landscape after beating Alabama in the opener last year.
However, the portal has not been kind to the Seminoles over the past two offseasons. With Coach Norvell's job security in jeopardy, the program has to win now. The pickups of Garrett and Edwards means that the Seminoles want to have a sense of direction within transfer portal acquisitions.
As much as Seminole fans despise the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes, head football coach Mario Cristobal and their program have been successful in picking up high-quality transfers.
