FSU head coach Mike Norvell is in a tough spot at the midway point of the season. FSU hasn't come close to expectations with a 1-5 start, and they've lost some important pieces of its 2025 high school recruiting class.

They's started issuing new offers to some talent committed to other programs, but it's late in the process, and there's no guarantee the Noles will show signs of turning things around in the second half. There's no guarantee some members of the coaching staff will be on staff after this season(most of them shouldn't).

There's a chance FSU will lose a few of the players committed at the moment, and there are not many options remaining from the high school ranks that they have a legitimate shot to sign. So that begs the question, how much will Mike Norvell have to rely on the transfer portal for the 2025 recruiting cycle?

I think FSU was rightly transitioning to concentrating on recruiting higher-end high school talent. They had some outstanding high-level commits going into the season. They likely still planned to use the portal, though not as much as in recent years. However, I'd expect they'll have to go more that route based on the amount of FSU-caliber high school players remaining and who could enter the the transfer portal or the NFL Draft from the current roster.

FSU has 11 commits, and I can't see them signing more than 15-16 high school players(with the prediction they'll lose a few more commits unless things drastically change on the field in the second half of the season). That would likely mean FSU would be heavy in the transfer portal again. However, one of the major factors is how many staff changes happen after this season concludes.

If he cleans the house and brings in nearly an entire new staff. That could impact things in a big way. I think he'll have to because opposing teams will continue to negatively recruit against FSU. The staff needs to get younger anyway, and the program needs new voices regarding accountability and development. We have about seven weeks to see how everything unfolds, but it looks like the transfer portal will continue to be a large factor going into the offseason.
