Former Syracuse and Nebraska linebacker Stefon Thompson was the third player FSU took from the portal. He was among the first guys once the defensive coaching staff from Nebraska came on board.
He has been a productive player in Tony White's defensive scheme at two different places, and that's where most of his value lies. He'll be like a coach at practice and in games, helping guys learn the defense. That's invaluable in year one with a coaching staff.
I don't expect him to be a major contributor, but he's someone they can put in the game without fear of him not knowing what to do. He played limited snaps at Nebraska, and FSU coaches likely didn't use many resources to acquire him, so I didn't mind the take.
He also only has one year of eligibility remaining, so that doesn't scare off any potential high school guys.
