FSU football fans celebrate having a bye week in week seven
By Kelvin Hunt
It's crazy how quickly things can turn for a college football program. A year ago, FSU was undefeated on their way to their first ACC title in a decade. It looked like the days of struggling were over for good, and FSU was back where it belonged among the college football elite. However, six weeks into the 2024 season, and FSU is staring at a 1-5 record and likely not making a bowl game in year five of the Mike Norvell era.
There were some encouraging things to notice from last week's loss against Clemson with Brock Glenn at quarterback. The team hasn't quit, surprisingly. However, watching FSU football this year has been downright depressing, and fans celebrated on social media, knowing they wouldn't take another loss with the bye-week this week.
I'm sure if FSU played this week, these fans would be watching. However, their sentiments go back to the expectations for a program like Florida State. It has been one of a few major programs that's avoided going multiple decades without winning anything of significance. Despite losing records in four of the last six seasons, FSU fans don't take to losing well.
It'll be interesting to see how the final six games shake out. I have been pleasantly surprised by the fan engagement despite the worst start in our lifetime. The Clemson game had solid attendance, considering FSU was a huge betting underdog and had a poor start to the season. The defense has played well enough for FSU to be 4-2 at worst. Here's to hoping Brock Glenn can spark the offense enough to win at least four games in the second half of the season. The first test against Duke is winnable, with a 20+ game winning streak on the line against the Blue Devils.
