FSU football: Did FSU players quit on Mike Norvell this season?
By Kelvin Hunt
About These Teams Jeff Cameron Mentioned
As mentioned, they had no preseason expectations, so losing games early was expected. They are used to losing for the most part and each team has different roster dynamics I don't have time to look into or write about here. However, they all managed to score 21+ points several times this season.
If you've done it a few times, you at least know it's possible. The FSU offense hasn't done that. They all have better offensive lines than FSU and can at least run the ball with some consistency or block it up in the passing game to some degree. Remember, FSU has 805 rushing yards this season. Take a look below:
- Utah-1,385 rushing yards
- Stanford-1,347 rushing yards
- Kansas-1,995 rushing yards
- Florida-1,473 rushing yards
Aside from Stanford, all have 62 or fewer tackles for a loss allowed. These two factors alone give your offense a fighting chance week in and out.
All those teams average at least 22 points per game. FSU averages 13.3 points per game, and it's mainly because the offensive line is awful. That's nearly a 10 point difference!
Let's be real. Nobody is going to keep going 100 percent for weeks on end when there has been no chance of scoring more than 14 points in a game because they know the offensive line can't do anything at all.
The receivers have played a part in that with some massive drops. However, Kentron Poitier wasn't deliberately trying to drop the touchdown pass from Luke Kromenhoek against Duke. The young guys have been trying, but haven't made the plays when they're there. The problem is the opportunities to make plays are fewer and far between since earlier in the season, with so many young guys playing and the offensive line getting worse.
