Worst Case
These are the games where FSU will be an underdog or potential underdog depending on how the first few games shake out:
- Alabama
- Miami
- Clemson
- Florida
These are the games where FSU will be sizable betting favorites:
- East Texas A&M
- Kent State
- Stanford
- Wake Forest
These are the games where it’ll likely be a toss-up:
- Virginia
- Pittsburgh
- Virginia Tech
- NC State
The worst-case scenario is FSU hosts Alabama and gets blown out on national TV in the first game after going 2-10. The fans won’t care about the season anymore, and probably won’t come to the next two games against cupcakes.
FSU travels to Virginia and claws out a victory and goes into the Miami game with a 3-1 record, but loses at home against the Canes. FSU would probably lose the next week at home against Pittsburgh before winning the next two against Stanford and Wake Forest to get to 5-3.
A blowout loss against Clemson would all but assure folks that Mike Norvell needs to go, and the chatter would grow louder and louder.
FSU would lose to Virginia Tech, go on the road and lose in the house of horrors known as Carter-Finley Stadium, and lose in the Swamp to finish 5-7 and miss a bowl game. There are a few ways we could get to this scenario with some injuries and perhaps some guys giving up on the season. I think 5-7 would be the floor for this year’s team.
