Special Teams Has A Chance
I’m still not sure how to feel about the special teams unit. FSU special teams coordinator John Papuchis gave a glowing report about placekicker Jake Weinberg on Monday.
The consistency he lacked has shown up lately, but we still don’t know if he can take it to the actual games. The same for the punter, though I’m less concerned about that spot.
We finally have some clarity on the kickoff and punt return units. Those units were not great last year, especially the latter. However, I like the combination of guys they have. Jaylin Lucas and Squirrel White have excellent speed and shiftiness. I think FSU will be upgraded in that area as long as they can stay healthy.
I like Sam Singleton Jr. and Micahi Danzy on kickoff return. Singleton showed promise last year, and Danzy has world-class speed.
The special team unit will likely play a big part in FSU’s success or lack thereof this season. That unit was among the best nationally last season aside from punt return.
