FSU football: 5 biggest things to know about the Virginia Cavaliers in 2025

Is UVA for real? I have my doubts, but here's what they've shown so far.

Third Down Conversion Rates

Virginia has played some cupcakes, but their third-down conversion rates on offense are impressive. The crazy part is that in the game against NC State, they converted 13 of 19 third-down opportunities (68 percent) in a losing effort.

They convert third downs 57 percent of the time through four games. They have moved the chains well and have had no fewer than 13 third-down attempts through four games. Again, they haven't faced anything close to a good defense yet.

Their defense has been superb on third downs, only allowing opposing offenses to convert 20.83 percent of the time. Ironically, the game they lost against NC State, the Wolfpack only converted one of seven third-down conversions.

Stanford had the most success of any team, converting six of 14 (42 percent). NC State has a solid quarterback, but they don’t have the overall offensive talent that FSU does, and they scored 35 points on Virginia. I’m curious if Virginia has the horses to go all four quarters with the Noles.
