Familiarity with Mike Norvell and Gus Malzahn

Mike Norvell recruited Thomas Castellanos out of high school as an athlete. FSU wanted him as a running back, but Castellanos believed he could play quarterback and ultimately signed with Gus Malzahn at UCF.

Castellanos appeared in six games as a freshman at UCF before transferring to Boston College to become the starting quarterback.

He had an opportunity to learn Gus Malzahn's system at UCF and played in a similar scheme at Boston College, which took advantage of his dual-threat ability.

Castellanos will be an early enrollee, so he'll have a leg up on getting re-acclimated to Malzahn's offense in the spring.

The 2025 season is about getting back to respectability and the offense was the phase that needs the biggest fix. Norvell's job is on the line and he chooses a guy he likely trusts more than anyone else to fix it in Gus Malzahn.

In turn, Gus Malzahn wants a guy he personally recruited and has a relationship with, who fits what he wants to do on offense to a tee.
