Miami Offense May Not Be Built To Come From Behind
Miami fans will tell you they haven’t shown everything in its bag of tricks offensively, but it’s not like FSU doesn’t have years of footage on a Shannon Dawson offense(just like they can do the same with Gus Malzhan).
However, one thing FSU doesn’t have to worry too much about is Carson Beck running around the field making plays with his legs. That’s something Miami definitely has to worry about with Thomas Castellanos. The difference in Miami’s passing offense between the two games against Power Four teams and the other two is significant.
Beck averaged 6.05 yards per pass attempt in the two Power Four games and 11.6 in their two non-Power Four games. FSU has to tackle well when Miami goes to those stacked formations, but don’t expect Miami to have much success deep down the field with chunk plays.

Virginia didn’t do it much against FSU, and that was with a dual-threat quarterback who had shown flashes of successful attempts down the field throughout his career. If FSU doesn’t have to worry too much about Beck taking off, they can run more man-to-man, and that should limit the pitch and catch stuff Shannon Dawson likes to do against zone coverage.
If FSU gets up early, Miami might get away from its grinding rushing attack, and that would play right into what FSU would want. If the FSU offense has success early, that could apply even more pressure and get Miami into situations they want to avoid.
