FSU Must Get Younger

One of the biggest issues for FSU has been the older age of most of the staff. Odell Haggins will be 58 in February. Randy Shannon will be 59 in February. Chris Thomsen turned 56 a few days ago, and David Johnson is around 50.

John Papuchis, Tony Tokarz, and Patrick Surtain are the only guys younger than 50.

I don't fault the older coaches (I'm 46) for not wanting to spend the required time texting and calling high school players.

The game has changed tremendously over the last decade, but it's a must to be successful, and most of these older coaches have been liabilities on the recruiting trail.

I think these older coaches got comfortable with their success from the transfer portal and were not held accountable enough by Mike Norvell. Recruiting the transfer portal doesn't require nearly the amount of time, and the windows are much shorter.

They need younger coaches with the energy to spend the time building relationships with these players. Otherwise, they won't get the players needed to compete at the highest level.
