Avoid Missed Tackles
One of the biggest issues NC State had was its inability to make tackles in the run game and in space. UVA has some physicality to its run game, and NC State defenders literally bounced off a few times when they were in position to make the play.
FSU hasn’t played soft and was great against the run when they faced Alabama in the season opener. FSU does need to clean up its missed opportunities when going after the quarterback, and UVA’s Chandler Morris moves well enough to cause some issues if they don’t stay in their rush lanes.
The other aspect of UVA’s offense is getting the ball out quickly to the perimeter. Much like FSU, they want to get the ball to playmakers in space in hopes of making the first defender miss. FSU defenders will need to show physicality to get off blocks and make plays to avoid yards after the catch. This is something UVA likes to do on first down as an extension of its running game.
If FSU tackles well, it’ll create more predictable third-and-long situations.
