Missed Tackles

Listen, the FSU defense played great on Saturday. The effort and ability to swarm to the football was something we hadn’t seen in a long time. However, I can’t help but think about how many tackles the Noles missed in that game.

FSU had three sacks and seven tackles for a loss, but could have had way more impressive stats. FSU probably should have had at least three more sacks and several more tackles for a loss.

I’ll give the Alabama quarterback credit for escaping because he does have some mobility. However, FSU can’t afford to miss those opportunities moving forward. They will face quarterbacks with better mobility.

FSU also missed tackles in the open field. The first touchdown Alabama scored had at least two missed tackles by FSU defenders. I know that no defense makes 100 percent of its tackles on the first attempt, and it wasn’t due to a lack of effort.

I can live with the mistakes after how they played on Saturday. I just need better execution, especially when it comes to tackling the quarterback for a loss. If they do that, they probably blow Alabama out even worse.
