Punting

FSU punting was another question mark going into the season. I thought redshirt junior Mac Chiumento had glowing reviews from Mike Norvell during fall camp. Maybe it was first-game jitters, but I expected more from the punting game.

Chiumento punted three times for 40, 43, and 42  yards. Alabama started from its 29-yard line, 20-yard line, and 37-yard line.

That’s not good enough for a redshirt junior. He had opportunities to boom the first and third punts, and the second one was a perfect opportunity to pin Alabama inside the 20-yard line, but that punt went into the end zone for a touchback.

The weather wasn’t great on at least one of those punts, but I’d like to see him average a bit more than 41.7 yards per punt.
