Scheme Fits

Mike Norvell was smart when he hired his two coordinators and allowed them to bring staff who were with them at their previous institutions. That continuity should speed the implementation of the schemes on offense and defense.

A few players FSU added are already familiar with the schemes on offense and defense because they followed their coaches to FSU. Thomas Castellanos (QB), Adrian Medley(OL), and Randy Pittman (TE) played for Gus Malzahn and Herb Hand at UCF.

James Williams and Stefon Thompson played for Tony White and Terrance Knighton at Nebraska.

The familiarity should make it easy for these players to assimilate and expedite the new players learning the schemes quicker. The offensive line has a lot of experience overall, and Thomas Castellanos hits Gus Malzahn's offense to a tee.

The mixture of the wide receivers complements everything from having tons of height and size to block in the running game, to winning one-on-one matchups.

Defensively, FSU added a ton of size and length in the trenches, which is vital to Tony White's No. 1 priority, stopping the run. They've added depth to the linebacker unit, and already have a ton of talent in the secondary. I think better play in the trenches will allow the secondary to take a step forward in 2025.
