FSU football coaches have a talented yet inexperienced secondary going into the 2025 season. They added an immediate impact transfer portal defensive back over the weekend and have a few 2026 defensive backs committed.

However, one player the coaching staff is working hard to secure a commitment from is four-star CJ Bronaugh. The Winter Garden, Florida, prospect committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in November 2024, while FSU defensive coordinator Tony White was in the same role at Nebraska.

Bronaugh has elite speed at 6'1" and 170 pounds. He ranks as the No. 106 player and No. 13 cornerback nationally. Bronaugh received a visit from several FSU coaches on Monday night:

Bronaugh visited FSU this spring and plans to take an official visit on June 13. FSU isn't the only team vying to flip his commitment. He has official visits to Penn State on June 20, Nebraska on June 6, and Florida on May 30.

Bronaugh committing to Tony White while at Nebraska is a plus, and Patrick Surtain has produced multiple NFL Draft picks over the past two seasons at FSU has to grab Bronaugh's attention, especially considering Nebraska isn't necessarily known for producing top defensive backs. Plus, how often does an elite defensive back leave Florida and goto Nebraska of all places?

Bronaugh has elite speed, posting several times in the 10.3 range in the 100-meters. He has run 200 meters in 20.87 and was named the Alpha Dog and MVP of the DBs at the Under Armour Next Camp in Orlando earlier this year.

FSU will need to go all out on its official visit with Bronaugh in June. I'm not sure if he'd be a candidate to flip before the season started, with FSU coming off a 2-10 record. He might wait to see how the team does in the first few games if he's considering flipping his commitment to FSU. This is a recruitment battle to keep an eye on as the coaches continue to put in the work.
