FSU baseball (38-14, 17-10 ACC) will host the Tallahassee Regional for the second consecutive year. The Noles learned the news Sunday night and will learn their overalls seeding in the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at noon ET.
FSU was a top-eight national seed last year, hosting the regionals and Super Regionals before making it to Omaha for the first time since 2019.
That likely won't be the case after losing three of four games against North Carolina late in the season.
Clemson and North Carolina were the only other two ACC schools among the top 16, which is crazy considering that Georgia Tech won the ACC regular-season title. Clemson ousted the Yellow Jackets in the semifinals.
It will suck for the local businesses if FSU advances past the Tallahassee Regional and has to go on the road for Super Regionals. At least they'll benefit from the Tallahassee Regional.
FSU was solid away from Dick Howser Stadium this season, going 12-6 on the road and 2-1 in neutral-site games.
FSU projects between a No. 10 and No. 12 overall seed and will likely get paired with an SEC team if they make it to Super Regionals.
It's not ideal to go on the road, especially in those raucous SEC environments, but FSU lost two series at home this year. They must minimize the mistakes against the better teams they've faced this year if they want to make it back to Omaha and have a chance to finally win that elusive national title.
They have enough talent overall, but those players will need to play near peak levels to give the Noles a chance.
The good news is the starting pitching seems to be ticking up at the right time and FSU has a couple of reliable guys in the bullpen.
My biggest concern is the offense going into the postseason. They must have better quality at-bats and avoid leaving runners in scoring positions when opportunities present themselves. It's one game at a time and get to Omaha where anything can happen!
