Link wasn't going anywhere, but good to see him locked in

On Monday, Florida State Athletic Director Michael Alford faced scrutiny from FSU fans after issuing a statement supporting FSU football coach Mike Norvell through the end of the season.

Thursday, FSU announced that Michael Alford and FSU baseball head coach Link Jarrett had come to an agreement on new contract terms for Jarrett.

Jarrett originally signed a seven-year deal in 2022 when he came to FSU from Notre Dame. He signed a contract extension after the 2024 season with FSU, reaching the College World Series and amassing 49 wins.

However, FSU is being proactive with Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello taking the San Francisco Giants manager position. Link Jarrett is considered one of the top college baseball coaches in the nation, and any top team would love to have him.

It’s unlikely that Jarrett would seriously consider leaving FSU. He’s an FSU alum, and one of his life’s missions is bringing that national title that eluded Mike Martin Sr. for so many years.

He took over an FSU program that was in disarray and quickly turned things around after a rough inaugural season in 2023. Jarrett has used the transfer portal to his advantage, putting his fingerprints all over the program and making upgrades to the baseball facilities.

This move raises my curiosity regarding some smoke with Michael Alford’s position and the football program. Some believe some power players don’t want him to make the next football hire. It’s not apples to apples and really a no-brainer considering Jarrett’s relationship to FSU. However, no terms were released with the press release either.

Either way, it's good news for FSU baseball that Jarrett will likely stay in Tallahassee until he retires unless something drastic happens.
