FSU baseball offense comes to life at perfect time before rivalry game and ACC play

We'll see if it's for real next week though

FSU baseball (12-2) destroyed Northern Kentucky 17-3 on Sunday to sweep the three-game series. It was the second run-rule game in as many days for the FSU offense as they continue to work out the kinks before they begin ACC play next week on the road against Wake Forest.

As I wrote last week, I was confident in the pitching, but it was the offense that likely needed to prove its worth. I remained confident despite the poor showing against Auburn and Nebraska because FSU has guys who have proven that they can hit at this level, but didn’t have much to show for it over the first few games.

It wasn’t the best competition, but they did what they were supposed to do, and that’s blast those types of teams with double-digit wins. The pitching was excellent, as each starter went at least five innings once again. FSU only allowed nine runs in the series, while scoring 37 in only 23 innings.

The top of the FSU lineup was on fire, with John Stuetzer, Noah Sheffield, and Myles Bailey having excellent production. Braydon Dowd's return to the lineup saw him crank out two home runs on Sunday. Will Bavaro continues to have himself an excellent week, and Cal Fisher seems to have found his confidence at the plate, going 2-3 with two doubles on Sunday.

Great to see the FSU offense come to life after a poor performance a week ago

The offense couldn’t have come at a better time since the level of competition will greatly increase over the next four games. FSU will travel to Gainesville to take on the rival Florida Gators on Tuesday evening before heading to Wake Forest for a three-game series to open ACC play.

We’re going to find out quickly whether the offense has improved or is just beating up inferior competition.

Florida lost its series against High Point this weekend and will likely come into Tuesday's game with a chip on its shoulder.
