FSU baseball fans will tell you the Noles lost their Super Regional against Oregon State because of the bullpen. There's some truth to it, but frankly, they lost their series for a variety of reasons, including the offense not playing well and missing some key opportunities to score.
Nevertheless, maybe Link Jarrett heard the cries and whining of some of the baseball fans. He didn't listen too hard since he didn't fire Micah Posey like a select few want(nor should he fire him). However, FSU coaches have added eight portal additions since the season ended, and seven have been pitchers.
The first was Davidson product, Eli Putnam. He's an infielder who hits for average and power.
The rest have been nothing but arms:
- Trey Beard-FAU (left-handed)
- Kevin Mebil-Barry (DII) (left-handed)
- Charlie Christensen-Central Arkansas (right-handed)
- Cade O'Leary-Mississippi State (right-handed)
- Cole Stokes-Oregon (right-handed)
- Bryson Moore-Virginia (right-handed)
- Gabe Nard-Duke (right-handed)
Beard will likely be a weekend starter, and Christensen will probably be a mid-week guy or someone in long relief out of the bullpen.
The rest of these guys are likely bullpen arms, and FSU has made adding some right-handers a priority. Some of these guys might get drafted and never make it to Tallahassee, which is an aspect college baseball coaches have to deal with that other sports don't. Recruiting is fluid, and FSU has done a solid job accumulating experience and talented arms.
However, they must find more offense, and there's still time. However, Putnam might have an option to go in the draft if things fall right. FSU will lose a lot of offensive firepower for the second consecutive year, with Alex Lodise, Max Williams, and others likely going in the early rounds of the 2025 MLB Draft.
While it's a headache to replace these types of guys every year, it lets you know Link Jarrett has FSU among the elite again in short order.
