The 2024 FSU baseball team returning to the College World Series for the first time since 2019. It was no surprise they were led by several guys who would eventually get selected in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.
It's always cool to find where the guys are playing and if they have been playing well enough to get promoted to a higher level.
FSU had eight players selected in last year's draft and we found the information for each below:
- Cam Smith: Smith had an outstanding Spring Training and made the major league team for the Houston Astros. He had his first multi-home run game in the majors on Friday night. He's batting .229 with three home runs, 10 RBI, and one stolen base.
- James Tibbs III: Tibbs is playing High-A ball with the Eugene Emeralds (SF Giants). The former first-round draft pick is hitting .250 with one home run, four RBI, a .413 on-base percentage, and two stolen bases.
- Marco Dinges: Dinges is playing Single-A ball with the Carolina Mudcats (Milwaukee Brewers). The former fourth-round pick is hitting .333, with no home runs, seven RBI, and a .471 on-base percentage.
- Jaime Ferrer: Ferrer is playing High-A ball with the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Minnesota Twins). The former fourth-round pick is hitting .143, with no home runs, no RBI, and a .273 on-base percentage.
- Carson Dorsey: Dorsey is playing High-A ball with the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles). He's on the seven-day injured list and has only appeared in one game this year.
- Gavin Adams: Adams is playing rookie ball with the FCL Pirates (Pittsburgh Pirates) and has not appeared in any games this year. He was hurt and didn't play for FSU last year, but he was an eighth-round selection.
- Yoel Tejada Jr.: Tejada is playing Single-A ball with the Fredricksburg Nationals (Washington Nationals). He has started three games, allowing eight hits in 13 innings, with 13 strikeouts, seven walks, and a 4.15 ERA.
- Conner Whittaker: Whittaker is playing Single-A ball with the Lynchburg Hillcats. He has four appearances and pitched 7.2 innings, allowing 13 hits, two talks, six strikeouts, and a 7.04 ERA.
The fact that Cam Smith made a major league tell less than a year removed from playing with FSU baseball is a testament to how special he is as a player. Tibbs had some bright moments in spring training and Ferrer and Dinges were solid in their first year of minor league ball. Here's to hoping they can find a groove and get promoted to a higher level soon.
