FSU baseball (41-14) defeated Mississippi State for the second time, coming from behind to beat the Bulldogs 5-2 to punch their ticket to Super Regionals.
Mississippi State got on the board first, hitting a solo home run on the first pitch thrown by Wes Mendes. They hit another solo shot later in the game, but that's all the Bulldogs would get.
FSU had to play without its head coach, as Link Jarrett got ejected at the end of the second inning after Mississippi State's pitcher made a taunting gesture toward the FSU dugout after getting a big strikeout to end the inning.
Mendes was masterful, pitching eight innings, striking out nine, walking two, and only allowing five hits.
FSU left runners on base in multiple innings, including having the bases loaded twice. However, they finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run home run by Cal Fisher.
The Noles would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth, with Max Williams breaking through with a single to right field to drive in the eventual winning runs. Myles Bailey added an RBI single, and Joe Charles came in to get the save in the top of the ninth.
Joe Charles struck out the first two batters, walked one, and got a strikeout for the final out to send FSU to the Super Regionals, where they wait to see if they have to travel to Oregon State or if they'll be hosting.
FSU Fans Reaction To The Win
It's so funny how everyone kept talking about how great the SEC was, but ACC teams haven't had many problems handling them in the postseason. I'm not an ACC guy, but the top teams in the conference can absolutely play with anyone in the country.
There's a reason four ACC teams made the College World Series, and two have already punched their tickets to Super Regionals.
FSU can relax and see where they play next week, as Oregon State has to win two more games to avoid elimination.
