There Are Options Who Would Likely Want to Coach at FSU For A Bargain

FSU is a place where things can get turned around quickly. We saw it with Jimbo Fisher and, for a short stint, with Mike Norvell. The history and prestige, access to elite talent in its backyard, and FSU’s commitment to football are still attractive to coaches.

FSU is one of the winningest programs in college football history and still one of the better college football jobs. FSU has proven it will pay top dollar for coaching staffs, but there may be some options that could help lessen the financial burden of Mike Norvell’s contract.

Coaches like James Franklin and Jimbo Fisher would be potential candidates. Frankly, we’d pass on the latter because of how things ended before. However, FSU could probably get Fisher at a discounted price. He seems to be campaigning for the job behind the scenes.

Franklin can allow Penn State to pay him because of his buyout, which means FSU could likely save some money with his contract.

FSU could also offer a highly incentivized contract for a new coach. If he wins big, he gets paid big. The latter isn’t likely, but if we were FSU, we’d be trying to work with super agent Jimmy Sexton on some sort of financial deal to get rid of Mike Norvell and hire another one of his clients.

Franklin and Fisher have cons, but neither can be worse than what Mike Norvell has done over the past two years. If FSU wanted to gamble on a young coordinator, that could be a possibility. At the very least, there’s something new to sell in Tallahassee, which brings fans (and likely more boosters) back into the fold.
