FSU lost 30+ players to the transfer portal since the season ended last November. I provided a list of destinations for each player here about a week ago.
It was addition by subtraction, as the majority of the players who left the program were not going to contribute any meaningful snaps or make an impact in any way. In some ways, it's an indictment of the old coaching staff responsible for poor evaluations and player development.
Some players had production in the past but failed to live up to their NIL contracts after they checked out during last season. It was best for them to exit the program to save money while eradicating culprits contributing to the bad culture created.
FSU had three players ranked among the top 100 players in the transfer portal. Ironically, I didn't hear anything regarding these new players at their new destination.
LSU folks made a huge deal about getting Patrick Payton out of the portal from FSU. I couldn't find a single article or interview highlighting any impact he made during spring practices.
The only thing I could find on Luke Kromenhoek was the piece I did a few weeks ago highlighting how he was battling a true freshman for the job at Mississippi State.
I couldn't find anything on Marvin Jones Jr. after he enrolled at Oklahoma. The same with Destyn Hill after he enrolled at LSU.
All of these guys were four or five-star recruits out of high school, but it appears FSU cut bait with them at the right time instead of trying to "save" them, which is something I've criticized Mike Norvell for in the past.
I don't think any of these guys who left will make a significant impact at their new destinations, and I believe the guys FSU replaced them with are upgrades. At the very least, I think they'll play hard all the time and not give half effort or play soft. FSU didn't lose much in the grand scheme, just some high-priced players who didn't care about winning.
