Hard work and patience pay off for former FSU basketball standout Jamir Watkins. The No. 43 pick of the 2025 NBA Draft signed a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards and the G-League’s Capital City Go-Go team.

Watkins has played in 30 games with the Wizards this season, averaging 5.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. However, Watkins has averaged 13.2 ppg and one steal over the last six games.  He was all over the highlights a few nights ago with this monster dunk against the Indiana Pacers:

It's great to see Leonard Hamilton's last star player get some shine in the NBA

Watkins was an elite find by the Wizards in the second round and is thought of as one of the top 25 rookies in the NBA by several outlets. The more experience he gathers, the better he seems to play, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him play in the league for a long time.

Florida State basketball fans remember Watkins transferring from VCU to make an immediate impact.

Watkins was an elite find by the Wizards in the second round and is thought of as one of the top 25 rookies in the NBA by several outlets. He averaged 15.6 points, six rebounds, and three assists as a junior. He flirted with going to the NBA and the transfer portal before deciding to return to Florida State for his final season. He elevated his play, averaging 18.4 points and shooting 49 percent from the floor.

It looks like he's found the same grove in the NBA over the past few games. Congrats to Leonard Hamilton's final player to get selected in the NBA Draft!
