Florida State football didn't have the 2024 and 2025 seasons that it wanted after it combined to have a 7-17 overall record. The fan base is disappointed in the results that the program has shown.

However, we know that college football can change in a hurry, and head coach Mike Norvell has the opportunity to turn things around. We saw Indiana win a national championship after being one of the worst programs in the sport, and Miami made it to the title game after twenty years of being irrelevant.

When Florida State lost to Stanford on the road, the majority of the fan base thought that there was a possibility that head coach Mike Norvell would be relieved of his duties. However, the administration decided to keep him around for the 2026 season.

On3 analyst Andy Staples thinks that Mike Norvell is a fired coach walking

There have been analysts all offseason stating that Norvell is at the top of hot-seat lists. This isn't surprising because the standard of the program has not been met. The place that the legendary Bobby Bowden built is unrecognizable.

I am not one to throw up pitchforks at the Mike Norvell situation, but the expectation is to win championships at a place like Florida State. The Seminoles have had four losing seasons in six years during Mike Norvell's tenure, so I completely understand why the frustrations are high.

To put fuel on the fire, On3 analyst Andy Staples thinks that Norvell is a fired coach walking. It is ironic because Staples covered the Florida Gators for The Tampa Tribune.

This situation with Norvell reminds me of Billy Napier heading into last season. He was eventually fired in the middle of the 2025 season, and the Gators now have former Troy and Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall as the new leader of the arch-rival.

Hopefully, Norvell finds a way to bounce back and prove the doubters wrong this year.
