Former Florida State standout player provides update on son's recruitment that sent fans into a frenzy

The double standard from the fan base is crazy

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell should have been during the season last year. I called for it. Many others called for it, and Florida State is feeling the effects of the decision to keep him in several areas, especially high school recruiting.

The Noles have six commits in their 2027 recruiting class, ranking No. 39 nationally. They have numerous official visits set with some blue-chip players, and it’ll be interesting to see what percentage of those they can land.

One recruit fans have asked about a lot is three-star wide receiver Julian Cromartie. If the name sounds familiar, his father is Antonio Cromartie Sr, and he (dad) took to social media to give an update on his son’s recruitment involving Florida State on Friday:

Why do fans get mad when the coaching staff offers three-star players ranked crazy low, but want a three-star player ranked crazy low because his dad played at FSU? Why the double-standard?

The reaction to that post was interesting because most fans called the coaching staff incompetent after the post. Is it though? The majority of the fan base is always critical of the staff for recruiting a ton of three-star players. Cromartie ranks as the No. 980 player nationally and No. 123 wide receiver. He’s 6’2” and 180 pounds, with offers from multiple Power Four programs. He has official visits set for Clemson, Kansas, and Kentucky.

Obviously, the young man has some talent, but would it really be an issue if he had a different last name to go with this high school ranking? Maybe it was a courtesy offer out of respect for Cromartie?

Mike Norvell personally offered Antonio Cromartie’s oldest son, Antonio Cromartie Jr., on Christmas Day in 2024, and he redshirted in the 2025 season. I don’t understand the need to put all of this on social media. Maybe the young man just isn’t that high on their recruiting board? FSU has eight wide receivers scheduled for official visits. Nearly all of them are from Florida or Georgia (way closer than Texas) and ranked much higher than Cromartie. Florida State signed SIX wide receivers in the 2026 class, so there isn't a huge need at the position.

I don’t give Mike Norvell and the coaching staff much credit for anything nowadays, but this situation seems like folks making something out of nothing.
