Florida State football has had an up-and-down roller coaster ride during the era of head coach Mike Norvell. The Seminoles have suffered four losing seasons in six years under Norvell, and hope that it gets turned in a positive direction for the 2026 campaign.

The program decided to turn to a transfer portal quarterback in former Stanford and Auburn signal-caller Ashton Daniels. He is expected to compete with the likes of redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry (and maybe JUCO option Malachi Marshall) for the starting gig.

Florida State has relied on the transfer portal market over the past couple of years with quarterbacks, such as McKenzie Milton, DJ Uiagalelei, Thomas Castellanos, and now Ashton Daniels. The fan base also wants to see if the Seminoles can develop a homegrown high school recruit at the position.

The 2024 season was a difficult one for Florida State, as they suffered a 2-10 campaign with veteran transfer DJ Uiagalelei getting hurt and then having to rely on youngsters Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek to get through the rest of the year.

Both Glenn and Kromenhoek showed promise at times, but they also had critical errors and didn't seem ready for the moment quite yet. It was surprising that the former five-star prospect Luke Kromenhoek transferred out of the program and headed to Mississippi State.

After a 2025 season where he was primarily a third-string option for the Bulldogs, Kromenhoek was back on the move again, and this time it was to South Florida to play for new head coach Brian Hartline.

Hartline mentioned recently that Kromenhoek was in contention for the starting job with the Bulls.

Michael Van Buren was thought to be the presumed starter, but it looks like Luke Kromenhoek has continued to stay in the race to win the job. It is always great to see former Florida State players still having a way to succeed at other stops, even though we wish that it had worked out with the Seminoles.
