Florida State football did not have the season that it wanted in 2025. The truth of the matter is that the Seminoles plummeted after their opening victory over Alabama. It got kicked in the mouth for the road game against Virginia, and the rest was history.
Losing seven of the last nine games doesn't sit well for a fan base that expects to compete for championships. Head coach Mike Norvell is on the hot-seat list for many college football analysts. However, Norvell should only be concerned about winning football games in Tallahassee instead of worrying about what others say.
The administration decided to bring back Coach Norvell for the 2026 season, where it be because of the buyout was too large to overcome or they believed in his skill set as a coach.
Mike Norvell might have to lean on former Stanford and Auburn transfer Ashton Daniels
The quarterback position hasn't been right in Tallahassee since Jordan Travis was under center. This is why Coach Norvell had so much success in 2022 and 2023. Some question if Norvell can even win without Travis being the signal-caller. Nonetheless, it was a shame that Travis's season was cut short due to an injury.
The Seminoles have tried their hand in the transfer portal with quarterbacks such as DJ Uiagalalei (Oregon State and Clemson), Thomas Castellanos (UCF and Boston College), and now Ashton Daniels (Stanford and Auburn).
The constant revolving of transfer quarterbacks has to be annoying to the fan base that wants to see consistency in the room. Redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry and transfer Ashton Daniels spoke to the media on Tuesday afternoon. Sperry mentioned that he is allowing the decision to come to the coaching staff and that he will put his head down and work, even with Daniels being added to the roster.
Florida State had to add another quarterback to the roster, with only Kevin Sperry and four-star signee Jaden O'Neal heading into the offseason. Dnaiels has seen his fair share of ups and downs during his college career at Stanford and Auburn.
Some fans think this could be the nail in the coffin for Norvell and his team's chances to be successful due to Ashton Daniels not having the strongest arm, his touchdown-to-interception ratio during his career (24 touchdowns to 22 interceptions), and the fact that he is putting his faith in yet another transfer.
Daniels doesn't deserve the criticism that he is facing, even though some might favor Kevin Sperry over him. He wasn't part of the Seminoles' struggles over four of the past six seasons. If the veteran quarterback does pan out in Tallahassee, he could make Mike Norvell look like a genius.
It likely won't be until fall camp that a quarterback decision is made, but the way that Mike Norvell raves about his veteran leadership makes fans think that Daniels will be the choice at the end of the day.
