Florida State football has seen many players come and go with this university. That is the new age of this sport, given the new transfer portal rule. However, the Seminoles have won a total of seven games in the past two years.
The fan base is tired of losing and seeing its former players go to other schools and perform at a high level. The expectation at a place like Florida State is competing for championships. That has not happened the majority of the time with the guidance of Mike Norvell
One player that the Seminoles were confused to see leave the program was wide receiver Destyn Hill, as he transferred to LSU. The former four-star prospect was acquired in the 2021 cycle, and he delayed his enrollment due to a personal issue.
The mystery of Destyn Hill will be a story to tell for a lifetime
While everyone was speculating what happened to Hill, Florida State continues to wait for him to arrive on campus. After two long years of the unknown, the Louisiana native finally enrolled with the Seminoles. It was such a strange encounter with the media showing up to the Moore Center, where they acted as if they had seen Bigfoot.
Hill was real and in Tallahassee. He was ready to make a difference for an offense that was headlined by quarterback Jordan Travis and fresh off a 10-win campaign in 2022. The 2023 season was all about showing that they belonged in the College Football Playoff.
Florida State had pass-catching pieces such as Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman, and Jaheim Bell, but Destyn Hill was supposed to be in the mix. The former Edna Karr High School standout was thought to blow up the stat sheet since the coaching staff had raved about his maturation. However, Hill only recorded six catches for 87 yards.
Year number two is a big step for players in a program, but Hill suffered a torn ACL in the offseason, which put him behind the 8-ball. After all of the investment in waiting for him to enroll at Florida State for two years, then watching him underperform in 2023, and then seeing him tear his ACL, the wide receiver decided to transfer to LSU.
It didn't seem like Florida State was quite the issue, as he only accumulated two receptions for 22 yards during the 2025 season with the Tigers. After just one season with LSU, Destyn Hill's story continues as he transfers back to his hometown of New Orleans to play at Tulane.
New Orleans' ABC news station interviewed Tulane head coach Will Hill and mentioned that wide receiver Destyn Hill's ceiling was "really high" (read the full article here).
Hill has recorded eight catches for 109 yards and zero touchdowns during his college career. The Louisiana native has to really elevate his play to get to the high ceiling praise that his new head coach is presenting. Hopefully, the pass catcher gets the job done at Tulane and does well.
