Florida State baseball had plenty of talent last year, but it ran into a buzz saw when playing Oregon State in the Super Regionals on the road. It was a shame since the squad had high expectations to make a deep run in Omaha.
Head coach Link Jarrett knew that he had a team capable of achieving the program's coveted first national championship. It is a shame that Florida State always falls into bad luck when in the postseason (life without Myles Bailey this season after the injury).
The pitching staff has been solid with Wes Mendes and Trey Beard, but once the starters get pulled, the bullpen hasn't been reliable. That is the nature of college baseball with having limited arms.
Former Florida State pitcher Jamie Arnold shines in a Double-A Affiliate appearance
Florida State fans didn't know how good they had it when Jamie Arnold was in the Garnet and Gold. The left-handed pitcher was dominant with the Seminoles, where every start, you knew what you were going to get.
Arnold was drafted by the Athletics in Round 1, Pick 11 of the 2025 MLB Draft. This was a good landing spot for him, as the franchise is rebuilding its roster with young talent before making the push to become a serious playoff contender when they move to Las Vegas.
The former Florida State standout had a dominant two-year span with the Seminoles in 2024 and 2025, where he had a 19-5 record with a 2.98 ERA and 278 strikeouts. It was not a matter of if he was going to be a first-round pick. It was when he was going to be a first-round pick.
Arnold picked up right where he left off as he is currently playing for the Athletics' Double-A Affiliate, the Midland RockHounds.
